{Day 53, 3:00p.m. - Under the White Flag}
A human youth, dressed in Dai Shimeron livery, carries a banner of a herald down the long, dark corridors of Blood Pledge Castle. The escorts flank him front and back; their weapons sheathed but at the ready. The herald trembles slightly under their scrutiny -- the dirt on his clothing is not only from the road. He knows full well he is not welcome in this country. However, he has correspondance to deliver, and heaven help him if it not reach the soukoku Maou's hands.

The guards instruct him to wait outside the huge door to the royal offices, one takes his letter within. A moment later, the guard reappears, gesturing for him to follow. Obedient despite sudden lightheadedness, the youth is ushered into the presence of humankind's greatest enemy.

Yuuri is sitting at his desk, his inside desk, because Gwendal is still working on getting him a place outside. He’s been trying to go through the stack of papers he has, and sign everything that needs his attention, but its hard. It’s not fun to work alone. No Wolfram, no Greta, no Greta, no Conrad, no Murata, not even Gunter or Gwendal to keep him company right now. He’d even welcome the Shinou right now. Luckily for him, someone brought him a glass of water recently.

He concentrates first, that’s what Murata said he was doing wrong for awhile, and then pours the contents of the cup into his hands. The water collects in his hands, flat as a mirror, reflecting his face as he looks at it. None of the water slips through his fingers, kept entirely in his hands.

Then the surface of the water trembles.

Up

The water swells upwards slowly in a domed shape. It’s harder then it looks. Murata has been working a lot with him to even get this far. Once you get the idea, moving the water up and down isn’t so difficult. Moving it out... he concentrates, his tongue sticking out from the corner of his mouth as he stares at the blob of water in his hands- is a lot more work.

Yes! It’s got arms now! Murata will be so proud. Once he’s got it down better, he’ll show Wolfram. It’s no dragon, but it’s a start. He loves his little blobby armed water buddy. ^___^

The demon king controls water.

The messenger freezes about twenty steps away from the desk, terrified. The very elements are polluted by this Maou. He closes his eyes and prays for strength. The Maou looks about his age, but he's heard the rumors -- the demons are deceptively young looking. No doubt their king is much, much older. Probably centuries.

A guard pushes him forward and the messenger stumbles, white-faced. "Y...y...your M...m...ajest...ty." Must not faint. Must not faint.

"Huh?"

Yuuri blinks, and Blobby Buddy dies a horrible watery death of as the result of his lack of attention and concentration.

"Ah!!!" He jumps up quickly, trying to save the paper Blobby Buddy just fell on. Gunter is going to be soooo dramatic when he sees this. He looks up as he's shaking them off and smiles. "At least I didn't get it all over my clothes huh?"

Yuuri smiles. Who was this guy again? He looks like he's going to fall over with a heart-attack. He can't be too much older that he is. Yuuri glances past the stranger, and blinks. Why do the guards look so.... burly today?

Despite having been raised in Dai Shimeron, the messenger's Mazoku is passable and the Maou's lack of recognition is a little confusing. The confusion helps numb the fear enough to speak like a respectable herald, not a child facing the boogeyman.

He coughs into his fist to clear his throat, then squares his shoulders. "Your Majesty, I bring a letter from King Belal of Dai Shimeron. My instructions are to give it to you alone."

Oooooooh.

Yuuri stands and moves around to the front of the desk. Now that he thinks about it, that DOES look like the insignia of Dai Shimeron.

"Just me?" Uh, that's going to be a problem. He waves the guards towards the door insistantly. "I'm sorry, I can't read your King's language. Would you mind reading it to me, uh.... I'm sorry, I missed your name. What was it?"

The messenger's lip twists in a very undiplomatic way. He can't even read the language? What sort of king was this?

"My name is Montjoy, Your Majesty," he replies as he breaks the seal on the letter. He notices with some relief that the guards begin to back off, though none of them look very happy about it. Clearing his throat again, Montjoy holds up the letter and reads slowly, so this demon king can understand.

"Shibuya Yuuri, Harajuku Fuuri, Maou of Shin Makoku:

A month ago, my nation fell under attack from agents from Shin Makoku. Said agents kidnapped my lawful Consort and fled, leaving me with no note of ransom or sign of his whereabouts. My recovery has been long and our investigation fruitless. As I am certain the agents could not have been acting under your orders, I entreat your help in finding the rogue agents and the safe return of my Consort.

I seek an audience with you, four days hence, in Shin Makoku. I demand access in the name of justice, and family, as -- as I understand it -- we are to be kin upon your marriage to Sir Wolfram von Bielefelt. And by accepting, you pledge to abide by the laws of hospitality and ensure my safe passage within your borders.

My messenger has been instructed to return with your reply. I look forward to our meeting.

Wilhelm Belal, King of Dai Shimeron"

The herald nods severely. "Yes, Your Majesty. It is a name long associated with power and royalty in my country." He folds the letter and clasps his hands in front of him. "I will be happy to wait elsewhere so Your Majesty has privacy to reply."

Uh, he didn't exactly mean it as a compliment, but that's good that it was taken that way! He didn't mean to insult anyone. But it's still an ugly name.

"Umm, right. Can I ask you a question though? I don't understand this part.... what lawful consort is he talking about? The whole letter seems to be based on this point. I mean, of course, he can come in, uh, visit, and I promise his safe passage, providing that he doesn't attack any of the people that live her, of course."

All the diplomatic training in the world cannot stop Monjoy from blatanly staring at the Maou. Is this a game?

"Your Majesty," he asks, a bit unsure. "Surely you have heard of King Belal's marriage to Conrart Weller..."

"Oh that." He shakes his head. "That's right, that's what this is about." Leaning back against the desk, he winces lightly and crosses his arms over his chest, thinking. "Mmm, this is going to be messy.... you know Conrad was KIDNAPPED by your king, right?"

Ah never mind, he should save this for when Belal comes over. He'll need to give the letter to Gunter as soon as possible. Gunter will know what he should and should not say.

And Belal used his nickname! Ack!

He smiles. "I'm sorry, this must be very confusing. I know I'm confused. Sorry, Monty, I'll stop babbling."

When the king raises his voice, the herald takes a step back nervously. It would not do to anger the man that human mothers tell cautionary tales about. In his own childhood, he remembers being warned that if he weren't a good boy, the Demon Hag of Shin Makoku would steal him away for breakfast.

As for the kidnapping, he's heard of no such thing. The king has no need to resort to such tactics in order to find a suitable mate. He will have to remain strong against such deception from the Maou.

Who is... smiling? At him? Montjoy fidgets. "It is... um... quite all right, Your Majesty," he manages. "Will there be a reply?" Please let there be, and soon. This whole castle makes him nervous.

"Oh right, right, a reply. Mmm... do you write? Can you take down my reply?"

Poor Monty looks a little nervous. It must be all the officialness.

"Here." He goes back behind his desk, moving the wet papers to the side, making a mental note to appologize to Gunter about that. A pen and a clean sheet of paper are quickly found and he holds them out. "I can't write human either, sorry."

This king is truly strange. Much stranger than the legends make him out to be. With a quick look back at the guards, Montjoy steps forward to take the paper and pen. They don't seem to object, so he takes another few steps, and places the paper on the desk, pen at the ready.

"Whenever you would like to begin, Your Majesty."

"Hmmmm,

Belal... you can add the first name in right? I can't remember what is was." Just that it was ugly. "Willy or something. Anyway! Belal, King of Dai Shimeron. Uh, thank you for you note. I am a great fan of justice, as you know, so I will meet with you. Four days. I expect you will conduct yourself with all properlyness...."

That doesn't sound quite right.

"Don't use properlyness, uh, use, propriety. That sounds impressive. Uh, this includes, of course, that you must treat my subjects here with respect during your stay. I know you have issues with some of them, but I will not tolerate an attack on my castle."

Oh, he hoped that didn't sound threatening. What can he add to make it better? Ah HA!

"You can leave you hat on."

Montjoy is careful to copy down only the correct words the demon king dictates. 'Properlyness'? Honestly...

After a few moments, letter is put to paper, word for word, with the odd, egalitarian gesture at the end. The herald turns the paper around and offers the Maou the pen, so he might sign it. "I thank you, Your Majesty. I will carry your reply with the utmost speed and discretion."

The half-blood Maou knows that Belal doesn't read kanji, but he always writes it this way. He folds the letter quickly and seals it with the royal seal. It's a cool looking thing. Gunter explained it once..... but he can't remember.

"Here you are, Monty. Tell Belal-heika I'll see him in four days.... does that four start today or tomorrow. Like, four days, tomorrow, the next day, the next day, and then come the next day.... or today, not the next day, or the next day, but the next day? Or...."

Montjoy's head is starting to hurt. "It is four days from the delivery of the letter, Your Majesty. Therefore, today."

Once the letter is complete and sealed, it disappears into the herald's tunic. He bows to the dark haired, dark eyed, young-looking man and turns to leave.

The shout sends the startled herald tripping over his feet and face-first on the floor. "No!" The desire to add 'you fool' is just barely kept in check. "Four days from today!"

"Oooooooh." That makes he feel a LOT better! Time to plan, and stuff.

"Oh, hey!" Yuuri hurries over to the fallen messenger. "Here." He offers the human his hand with a smile. "Let me help you."

The guards are already eyeing him with their hands on their swords. Actually coming into physical contact with their king just might set them off, no matter how pleasantly the Maou might have offered. Montjoy shakes his head and picks himself up. "Thank you, Your Majesty, but I am all right. With your permission, I will take my leave."

He doesn't exactly wait for said permission before hurrying for the door. The sooner he is out of here, the sooner he will be home.
